Key Features

Intelligent Auto Compression

Analyses internal file structures instantly with four smart predefined algorithms — automatically generating the smallest possible PDF while retaining pristine text readability and image quality. No configuration needed.

Side-by-Side Quality Preview

A real-time synchronized comparison pane locks scrolling and magnification simultaneously — showing exactly how much space you're saving, down to the percentage point, before you commit.

Granular Manual Compression

Fine-tune JPEG quality, downsample image resolution, apply specific colour space profiles, and strip hidden metadata bloat — full control over the compression engine for advanced users.

Native Batch Processing

Leverage multiple CPU cores simultaneously to compress entire folders of PDFs at lightning speed. Load queues instantly with drag-and-drop and process hundreds of files hands-free.

Scanned Document Optimisation

Maximize savings on heavy scanned paperwork using Grayscale, Monochrome, and Bitonal colour profile conversions — producing files up to 40× smaller with crisp, readable text.

Vector Graphics Optimisation

Five-level vector optimisation strips superfluous anchor paths and structural data from drawing, note-taking, and markup app PDFs — the file types that traditional compressors can't touch.

Apple Shortcuts Automation

Turn PDFOptim into a Finder Quick Action — trigger instant background compression cycles directly from a file's right-click context menu, without ever opening the app.

Metadata & Structural Stripping

Safely purge hidden overhead — alternate images, embedded thumbnails, document structure hierarchies, and output intents — to squeeze out every last byte of storage savings.

Private & Fully On-Device

All compression runs natively on your Mac, iPhone, iPad or Windows. Your documents are never uploaded to any server — fast, secure, and completely offline.

Does what it says efficiently

Making PDF files smaller is probably the one thing that about everybody needs at some point. There are hundreds of apps that will mark up, save, reorder pages and stuff with PDF files (Good Reader is my personal favorite) but none of them will help you get a a 30mb PDF down to email size. This does it without an annoying subscription. Simple, affordable, worth every penny. I squished down a 25mb PDF to 3mb and couldn’t even tell the loss in…

PERFECTION - DOES EXACTLYI WHAT IT ADVERTISES

I am a print graphic designer and I live and die on creating PDFs for printing, proofing, and sharing. PDF Optimizer makes it very easy to reduce the file size— much more than I have ever been able to do by myself. And the side-by-side compare windows are brilliant. I highly recommend this app.

When You Know You Know

I was a little hesistate at first, so I tried the Lite version. It did an amazing job, I just hated the watermark. So I did the sensable thing and bought the pro. What's a mega good reason to pay $3 bucks for it? Well... what about the fact that you don't have to pay subscription plans for any other service? I'll say that its worth it. Even if I don't end up using it as much as I want, I know have a tool at my disposal for the future. My pri…

Essential

I'm often making proposals for clients that can be image heavy, and this little program can crunch a file down by as much as 90% with minimal loss of quality. I have it for iPad as well, and its a lifesaver in both formats. And, at least when I purchased it, the thing was dirt cheap compared to other apps. Features easy integration with the "print is the new share" situation, and with pro shortcut options (haven't played with this yet). It d…

Perfectly simple

I use Notability to document construction jobs, taking pics and adding comments, however after multiple pages of photos, the file becomes too large to export from the app into an email (4 page note was 37MB ). I tried exporting the file to various apps (Drive, PDF converter, acrobat, docs2go) but there was no work-around to the too-big-to-attach file size. Three bucks later I download this app and boom, file was compressed and emailed. The ap…

Wowzers! So easy...

This program is great in every way, does exactly what it promises. Really easy to load up a pdf, change multiple options for compressing it, SEEING a LIVE PREVIEW of the document before it is saved as well as the new file size, then saving it where you want. Easily turned a 5 MB PDF into 600k file and I can't even see the difference in quality between the two. I was hesitant because I know how to use the quartz filters built into Preview and…

Perfect for compressing PDFs

I can’t believe this feature isn’t available on other PDF viewers for iPad. Really wanted to not have to revert to the mac to do pdf compression, and this works great. Plenty of options for compression...try out lite version first. This app was perfect, and worth the price to support the continued development. Thanks devs!!

Great Optimiser

This is a fantastic app - it's fast, really effective, quite intuitive to use, and it's cheap! It allows you to dial up exactly how much compression you want to apply, is super responsive to changes, gives excellent feedback (side by side comparisons) and unlike practically every other productivity app on the market, they dont gouge an annual fee to use it (you can purchase outright). Cant recommend it enough.

Worth The Money

Compared to spending hundreds of dollars more for Adobe Acrobat X, this program is excellent. It does exactly what I need, which is reduce the file size. I don’t need all the other fancy features that Adobe Acrobat X offers. I would spend the few dollars to try this program before spending hundreds on Adobe Acrobat X.

How does this app not have 1000+ reviews?

It's one of the best apps I've ever used. It's so easy to use and gets you exactly what you need in an instant. All I wanted to do was compress my PDF so that I can email it easily, this does that efficiently and fast! The loss of quality is barely noticeable even at ridiculously small file sizes. I love this app
